What is a boil water advisory? What should I do when a boil water advisory has been issued?

A "Boil Water Advisory" is a notification issued as a preventative measure. Boil water advisories are distributed if there is a possibility of bacterial contamination in the drinking water system that could make you sick.  If one is issued, it is recommended that all potable water be boiled for five (5) minutes before consuming or cooking with it.
